Thanks for the Memories

by Kim Jondahl

Deb Seminary graciously asked me to contribute a “Top 10” list of favorite memories from the beginnings of this magazine, initially named Inspire.

Inspired Woman continues to be a great source of pride for me as the six-year editor who helped launch this magazine. From humble beginnings, the staff helped it evolve into a respected community magazine. It wasn’t easy. Before the first issue even hit the stands, one local reporter commented that we were “gutsy but stupid. It’ll never fly.” A potential advertiser claimed we would fold within the year. Ignoring the naysayers, we kept plugging away. (more…)

March/April Editor’s Notes

by Deb Seminary

Welcome to the first “Who Inspires You” issue. A few months ago, readers were invited to submit their inspirational stories and they rose to the occasion.

My first thank you goes to Rob Taylor. He sent me the idea a while back and I took it from there.

A huge thank you to all of the judges who read and re-read each of the 17 entries. It was not easy coming up with a ‘top three’ list.

I also want to thank our prize providers: Lifeways; Womens Health Center; SKIN at the Institute of Facial Surgery; McQuade Distributing; Bismarck Arts and Galleries Association; Identity Salon. I encourage you to support their businesses.

And finally, thank you to all of you who shared your stories. I hope to be able to publish each and every one in the coming months, as I know our readers will love your inspirational words.

Who did they write about? Mothers, aunts, acquaintances and grandmothers – quite a few grandmothers in fact!

The way our first place winner, Jessie Veeder Scofield, wrote about her grandmother, I could picture her on the ranch cooking, gardening and riding.

Beverly Everett, our second place winner, penned a story about a relatively new (and inspiring) relationship.

And, I’m sure every woman will appreciate Jeff Eslinger’s third place submission about his lovely wife, Kim.

Should we do this again next year? Read, then let me know at deb@theprinters.info.

Who Inspires You

by Deb Seminary

We have received 17 entries for the ‘Who Inspires You’ contest. I am very excited to read all of the stories and learn about what inspires our area writers.

I think picking a winner is going to be very difficult. I know how much thought and consideration must have gone into each essay. I will be sure to have a box of tissue near by, too!

Winners to be announced in the March/April issue, so stay tuned.

Editor interviewed this morning

Deb Seminary, editor of Inspired Woman magazine, was interviewed on URL Radio’s “Child’s Play” program. The hosts of this program wanted to find out why this issue was dedicated to kids and they really wanted to hear some of the gross mommy moments.
(“read the poop one, read the poop one”)

This issue is dedicated to kids for a lot of reasons. First of all, mothers like to read what other mothers are going/have gone through. It’s important we know we’re not alone.

The March/April issue is dedicated to kids because parents want information to help them raise their children. They can find out how to improve study skills and make cooking fun (while learning).

We will post most of the articles just in case you can’t get your hands on the real thing.

The March/April issue is now available

Those guys in the press room worked their tails off, and got the magazines put together this morning! Tom and Dan will be delivering some this afternoon and the rest on Monday.

Our Inspiring Woman on the cover is Carrie Grosz, the face of Carrie’s Kids in the community. Her goal in life is for all kids to have an education. She sees the challenges some kids face and meets them head on, solving problems and taking advantage of opportunities. Bismarck is lucky to have Carrie.

More articles and stories will be posted in the next few days. Hopefully we will have a new look to this blog, as well. ~be inspired~
